Thi is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game SSX Blur by GameDaily

Conquer the mountain in style with EA Montreal’s Wii exclusive SSX Blur. Players select from 12 riders, then spin, jump, flip and shred their way through 12 beautiful tracks featuring gigantic dinosaur statues, ramps, half-pipes and insane drops. In a unique twist, they steer their characters using the nunchuk, twisting it left to right to navigate around hairpin turns. To perform tricks, they jerk the Wii remote in various directions, and once they fill the Groove Meter, they draw shapes using both controllers to bust out superhuman maneuvers, all the while the music changes depending on how well they perform. No online play hurts, and the two-player split screen mode offers limited enjoyment, but overall, EA successfully “blurs” the line between realism and fantasy, creating a great video game for all ages.

This is the Updated Fact Sheet of the Nintendo Wii game Wing Island

Get ready to take to the skies with the ultimate aerial adventure! Wing Island will allow you and your friends to hone your flying techniques as you soar through the clouds as an ace biplane pilot, performing death-defying stunts and exciting tricks along the way with ease. Wing Island soars across Europe on Wii on 23rd March 2007. Wing Island is published by Hudson and distributed by Nintendo.

As the first flying game for the dynamic Wii Console, Wing Island is like no other flying game out there. Using the Wii’s ground-breaking motion sensitive controls, players can feel as if they really are flying their plane. The use of the Wii Remote allows players to achieve maximum precision whilst flying, combined with a more realistic feel. By simply tilting the controller left or right, you can turn the plane in the desired direction by angling the remote up or down gamers can easily change height. Quick turns can be easily achieved by waving the remote’s tip to the left or the right. Acceleration and breaking is equally simple to control with quick bursts of speed controlled by quickly thrusting the remote forward or backward, whilst more steady speed is achieved by pressing up or down on the D-pad. Not only is this a simple and intuitive way to control the game but it also brings an all-new level of fun and excitement to the game, regardless of your previous gaming experience, as your movements control the plane.

In the main Story mode, gamers progress by completing each mission and unlocking new locations. The game’s single player missions set the player a number of fun tasks to test their flying skills ranging from food drops to extinguishing forest fires and taking photos of assigned objects. Players earn different ratings for each mission based on time, accuracy and damage to the planes. This in turn influences points, bonus points, and money awarded for each of the 27 missions. Earning money in turn allows players the opportunity to tune and repair their plane and even buy one of seven completely new planes. During each mission the player has the opportunity to fly solo or in a formation of five dependent upon which mission they are involved in, therefore enabling the player to experience the best of both flight methods.

‘Wing Island’ is centred around three different, exotic cartoon islands inhabited by wacky cartoon animals who will help players complete the tasks they are set. The first island is the smallest and houses ‘Wing Inc’, where the first few missions take place. The second location becomes available after completion of the initial missions and presents more challenging terrain across which to navigate. The third and final island has a large city built on it and is by far the most challenging to navigate across.

If the idea of completing missions doesn’t appeal to you then select Free Mode where you can fly freely around the islands in the game without constraints of time. At any point in the mission players can also try and break their own records to show off to their friends in the Single Player Competitive Mode. There are three options in this mode: score attack, where players must pop balloons by ramming them with a spike on the plane, time attack where they must race through numbered gates and also Plane Tail which allows you to pop balloons tied to your opponent,

If a bit of extra competition is what you’re looking for why not go head to head against a friend to prove yourself a flying ace, or perfect your skills by taking on Wii in Two Player Mode. As in Single Player Competitive Mode, this mode also contains score attack and time, as well as Plane Tail.

The super-exciting ‘Wing Island’ flies into stores across Europe on Wii on the 23rd March 2007 at an estimated retail price of around 49 Euros (approximately Ł34 in the UK). The Wii console is available across Europe priced at 249 Euros (approximately Ł179).

Electronic Arts announced today that SSX Blur developed exclusively for Nintendo Wii

Electronic Arts announced today that SSX Blur developed exclusively for Nintendo Wii is the newest version of the critically acclaimed snowboarding franchise. The huge air, blurring speed and insane tricks that SSX is known for return and the fun-factor is amplified by the unique capability of the Nintendo Wii controller. The game is in development by EA Montreal under the EA SPORTS BIG brand, and will be in store across North America and Europe in March 2007.

Revolutionary controls take full advantage of the Wii`s potential by putting you in total command of your skier or rider, on-the-ground & in-the-air, by translating every motion you make into the skills that create mountain legends.

Let`s face it, SSX has not been the most fantastic of series but it has been enjoyable. Some of the games are great and some aren`t. Hopefully with the Wii-mote this will be a better one, at least the game play will be new and interesting instead of only random button-mashing. I can`t wait to see the videos on this one when it comes out and people get boarding with the Wii-mote.

SSX Blur will be available for the Nintendo Wii in March 2007. The game has a 3+ PEGI rating.

Nintendo Wii has its own Easter Eggs, or tricks whatever you like to call them.

The following are some interesting “Easter Eggs” that are part of the Wii, WiiSports and the Wii Channel:

  • Catch an evil cat in the Fun option (by pressing A and B) in Photo Channel that runs across the screen so you can get some tips
  • A 194 piece puzzle can be created by holding down the 1 button before selecting any piece amount
  • You can e-mail a JPG file to your Wii Message Board (around 1MB limit)
  • In Wii Bowling, you can throw your ball into other people’s lanes
  • If you put mp3s in your SD card along with your photos, you can change the background music during a slide show to one of your mp3s
  • When the message board records your play time, if you don’t exit to the Wii Menu before you power off the machine, it records the play time as “other”. If you properly exit to the menu and then shut off it will record it as the correct game
  • You can rearrange almost anything on the Wii…like the channels and messages by just holding the A and B
  • The plasma burn in reduction kicks in the second the Wiimote shuts down.
  • When you get an e-mail, not only does the disc drive light up and pulsate blue, but your Wiimote sends out a little chirp
  • When you’re in the Mii channel and you don’t use the Wiimote for a little bit and your Mii’s start walking around, if you then suddenly use the Wiimote, all the Mii stop and follow the ‘hand’ for about 3 seconds
  • When typing messages, and you need to go back and edit the message(while still typing) instead of deleting letters, just point to where you want to edit to move the type cursor.
  • In Wii Sports Bowling, when you press up on the Directional Pad, it will zoom in on the lane. The zoom in sound is the exact same sound from Super Mario 64 any time you moved the camera.
  • Co Op Jigsaw puzzles in Wii photos
  • You can place the sensor bar upside down and it doesn’t reverse the directions of your movement
  • In Wii Bowling, you can release on the back swing and throw the ball backwards. It scares all the Mii’s behind you
  • Classic controller has analogue shoulder buttons. With the GC “click” at the bottom.

this is an Excerpt from the Nintendo Wii game Super Mario Galaxy Preview by GamePro:

The lovable caricature of the infamous Italian plumber is without doubt one of the most recognizable animated faces in the world. Mario is the iconic avatar of gaming culture: a depiction of fun, adventure, and ingenuity that has always been symbolic of console entertainment and synonymous with Nintendo. For many gamers, the success or failure of Nintendo consoles has been defined by the quality of their Mario titles. It goes without saying that Nintendo’s new console will need a flagship Mario game to steer the system’s way towards profitable seas.

It is, then, of little surprise that the upcoming Nintendo Wii will host Mario’s newest adventure, but what is surprising — and very welcome — is the return of ingenuity to the franchise. The Gamecube’s Super Mario Sunshine was certainly a fun game, but it was little more than a glorified sequel to Super Mario 64. While few innovations could hope to approach the scope of Mario 64’s magnificent transition into three dimensions, Sunshine offered none at all. There were modifications to gameplay, to be sure (the return of Yoshi and the addition of a jetpack could not be ignored), but it is difficult to classify those additions as anything more than cheap parlor tricks when compared with Mario 64’s rich overhaul.

For a game that doesn’t even have a release date other than “sometime in 2007,” Super Mario Galaxy is already turning heads. While it certainly won’t be out soon enough to be a system-seller, it nevertheless promises to be one of the Wii’s must-have games next year. That Nintendo is taking its time releasing the game is somewhat positive — as much as we may want to play Galaxy, at least we know that once it is released, it will have been well worth the wait.

TY the Tasmanian Tiger Wii

In a recent interview with Krome Studios Co-Founder (Steve Stamatidiadis), by aussie-nintendo.com , they talked about the nintendo wii and future plans for the console.

They revealed that they Will develop a TY the Tasmanian Tiger game for the Nintendo Wii.

When will we see first games from Krome Studios for Nintendo DS and Wii?

Krome Studios is really excited about Nintendo’s new console Wii, and we love the DS as well. It’ll be at least a year before we come out with a game for either system as we’re pretty busy working on our current projects but that said we’ve had ongoing discussions and design meetings about future projects which definitely includes supporting the Nintendo hardware. For instance, we know that TY the Tasmanian Tiger has and will continue to be a perfect franchise for the Nintendo gamers so it’s safe to say that our furry little yellow friend is a great candidate for Nintendo’s DS and Wii consoles. Also, it will depend on what publishers want from us and what they think will appeal to the market.

Is there going to be a new TY the Tasmanian Tiger game from Krome Studios and will it be released on Nintendo DS and Wii?

Yes, there will be another TY game or two from us as we feel he’s definitely got staying power and a few more tricks up his sleeves for fans. At the moment though we’re taking a bit of a break from the TY universe (it’s been 5 years of TY game development for some of us.) I think the Wii is the perfect platform for a TY game and you can bet your booties that we’ll be doing one down the track.
