This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity by HookedGamers

For a game that’s due to be out in Japan in January 2008 and North America in February, very little has been shown to the public, save for a brief trailer at the Leipzig Games Convention in September. No doubt Sega will release a flurry of information between now and the eventual release date, including more details on the Wii’s controls.

As it stands, it’s very much up in the air as to whether Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity will improve on its predecessor. The gravity controls could enhance the game beyond our wildest dreams, but they could also turn out to be nothing special. For now, however, with the vehicle customisation and track exploration, this has the potential to be a surprise hit for Sega.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Opoona by 1up

We also ran into some random battles outside town with whimsical creatures, and we later noticed a “save stand” and a place to “refresh” set together for maximum convenience, looking almost like a gas station.

Popping open the menu yields a dense stack of categories ranging from regular types of items to “secret keys,” whose purpose is yet to be determined. Despite the adorable, almost Fisher Price toy look, this appears to be a serious RPG. We didn’t really get a taste of the specialized licenses that Opoona takes on throughout his travels, but that’s something to look forward to. Opoona’s date has been pushed back in Japan until November 1, but we in the U.S. will still be holding out.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams by 1up

Visually, Journey of Dreams looks pretty good at this point. The framerate could still use a bit of work, but the textures look nice and the whole game has a cohesive feel to it. It’s hard not to wonder what things would look like on PS3 or 360, especially since the original Nights was known as a visual powerhouse, but for a Wii game, this is certainly pretty decent looking.

Countering rumors saying the game will be delayed until next year, Sega announced at TGS that Journey of Dreams will ship on December 13th in Japan, and we expect a U.S. release this year as well. Just in time for Christmas, curiously enough. Who wants to place bets that we’ll see a Christmas Nights-style bonus come December 25th?

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution by 1up

While the game has a multitude of modes — story, score attack, timed attack, survival, two- and four-player versus, and four-player free-for-all — that you can play motion-free, it also has three Wii Remote specific minigames: Shuriken Throw, Rasengan Training and Shadow Clone Trick. The objectives are different, but they all require you to point with the Wii Remote to try for the high score. There doesn’t seem to be much reason to play these games, other than as a time-passing break from the fighting game, but they do seem rather addicting. It’s a nice bonus to what Naruto fans will no doubt want to check out this October when the game releases.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 by CVG

It’s an impressive sequel that’s certainly a lot more polished than its rivals. With user-friendly features such as the ability to jump straight into a game within a couple of clicks from the title screen, and automatic skipping of certain games if one or more players lacks a nunchuk, this is a well-crafted effort that should see a lot of action at multiplayer parties.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games by CVG

On top of the 20-plus Olympic events, a few Mario and Sonic-themed games are on the way. For franchise fans this probably carries the most significance - seeing Sonic amidst Nintendo level furniture and Mario having to deal with rings instead of coins is more in the vein of what we were expecting from the title as a whole.

We can probably expect these events to have more of a minigame vibe to them than the main events, padding out four-player simultaneous play in a game where events are naturally tuned towards turn-taking party sessions. It’s not the game’s fault as such, but outside of track events just how would four players interact?

This is looking like a sturdy entry into the track and field genre, but one slightly lacking in character. We want blood-feuds, but we’re seeing friendly competition. We hope the release will reveal our fears unfounded.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption by Eurogamer

One thing we did notice over the course of the first couple of levels is the Retro appears to have given Corruption a more cinematic push, with a greater emphasis on longer animated cut scene interludes, and more characters to talk to on your travels. Whether this approach extends to the rest of the game we’ll have to see, but it’s a promising venture into making the game feel a little more ‘alive’ than previous the almost ’silent movie’ approach of old.

With the review code a matter of days away, we’re certainly looking forward to getting stuck into the next Metroid - and being tested to the very limit once again. Check back soon for our in-depth thoughts on this first-rate Wii exclusive.

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Wii Fit by CVG

Sure, the games are simple, but Wii Fit has the same replay factor and community gaming-style appeal as Wii Sports, which we know is a massive contribution to Wii’s overwhelming success.

We look forward to seeing more of what the full game will have to offer soon, ahead of its pre-Christmas release. In the meantime, check out the video to the right of us (okay, me) embarrassing myself for the benefit of you readers. The four-minute video demonstrates how games talked about in this preview (and more) are played. Don’t laugh.
