A jury of Nintendo’s industry peers has honored the video game company with Game Developers Choice Awards for innovation and game design for Wii Sports™, which comes packed with Nintendo’s hot-selling new Wii™ home system. Nintendo also won an award for writing for The Legend of Zelda®: Twilight Princess.
The awards were presented the evening of March 7 at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. They represent the peak of video game excellence, as voted on by game developers from around the world. The Game Developers Choice Awards Advisory Board also honored legendary Nintendo video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
“Wii Sports continues to resonate not only with consumers but also with the creative soul of the industry: the game developers themselves,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “Wii is designed to allow creativity to triumph over technical and financial barriers, and Wii Sports is a perfect example of how a great idea can succeed on its own.”
Wii Sports and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess were nominated for five awards in four categories.

Joystiq asked several questions To Wes Culver, lead designer of the Nintendo Wii game Tiger Woods Wii, This is an excerpt of the interview:
What are the differences between Tiger Woods on the Wii and the other platforms?
So the difference between the Wii and the other platforms is obviously the control. All the gameplay controls have been totally redone to take advantage of the Wii Remote. If you want to, you can even go back and plug in the Nunchuk to get the analog swing. You can do that, and you play it as you would on the PS2 or the Xbox 360. But everything from the swing, the draw and fades, the spin — all that sutff has been mapped to the Wii Remote, one way or another.
Are there differences in options or modes between the systems?
There are minor mode differences, but for the most part we try to keep as much content as possible while keeping it fun, keeping it fresh. So the Tiger Challenge will have more game modes built-in which are brand new for Wii. We carried over fun arcade game modes like Skills 18, Target2Target, T-I-G-E-R, and Battle Golf. We have all of the regular, official modes like stroke play, match play … so we have a lot for future golf fans.

Nov. 7 (Bloomberg) — Walt Disney Co., the world’s second- largest media company, is creating a video-game studio to make titles exclusively for Nintendo Co., targeting audiences for its animated characters.
The studio, called Fall Line, will be based in Salt Lake City and run by Scott Novis, who led the team that created the game based on the Pixar film “Cars.'’ Novis’s designers will build games for the Nintendo “Wii'’ console to be released this month and the “DS'’ and “Game Boy'’ handheld players.
Chief Executive Officer Robert Iger said in September that Disney can earn more by developing its own games rather than licensing characters and content. Disney has spent $200 million in the past two years to buy or start game-development studios. The Burbank, California-based company will spend another $200 million in the next two years, said Graham Hopper, general manager of Disney’s Buena Vista Games.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. –(Business Wire)– June 19, 2006 MoSys, Inc. (Nasdaq:MOSY), the industry’s leading provider of high-density system-on-chip (SoC) embedded memory solutions, today announced that Nintendo’s upcoming Wii(TM) video game console uses MoSys’ patented 1T-SRAM technology to implement the very high performance memory within the Wii console’s graphics system.
“We are pleased that Nintendo has again chosen our 1T-SRAM to power their latest generation game console,” said Chet Silvestri, chief executive officer at MoSys, Inc. “
About 1T-SRAM
Available in densities up to 600Mbits, MoSys’ patented 1T-SRAM technology represents the most advanced embedded memory technology in the world. It uses a single transistor cell to achieve its exceptional density while maintaining the refresh-free interface and low latency random memory access cycle time associated with traditional six-transistor SRAM cells. Embedded 1T-SRAM allows designers to get beyond the density limits of six-transistor SRAMs; it also reduces much of the circuit complexity and extra cost associated with using embedded DRAM. 1T-SRAM memories can be fabricated in either pure logic or embedded memory processes using as little as one fifth of the area of traditional six-transistor SRAM cores. In addition to the exceptional performance and density, this technology offers dramatic power consumption savings by using only a quarter of the power of traditional SRAM memories. 1T-SRAM technology is volume production proven in across multiple silicon processing generations and supported by a wide number of pure-play wafer foundries and independent Device Manufactures (IDMs).
