All in, a very solid demo of a game that has clearly taken a lot of the criticisms of the first one on board. With all that exertion I was famished, so I headed off in search of a big, filthy burger. And you know what? I never enjoyed it half as much as I had enjoyed playing Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. And it’s hard for me to offer any higher praise than that! I really look forward to getting stuck into some more of the mini-games soon, hopefully at E3 next month and/or at Leipzig in August.

As one of the nicer looking games and one of the most fun to play, Rayman Raving Rabbids should not be passed up by any Wii owner. This is a good game to demonstrate some of the Wii-mote capabilities and also ends up being a bit of a workout. Ubisoft did a great job here in taking the Rayman franchise into a bold and new direction. This kind of game cannot be enjoyed on the same level on any other platform. If you want your Rayman fix, then the Wii version is 100% the way to go.

Raving rabbids’ aesthetic aspects aren’t without their drawbacks – it’s solid, functional visuals certainly aren’t going to win the Wii any new converts – but the light-hearted feel of the game, and particularly the character of the Bunnies themselves, just seems to work. Together with an overall successful implementation of the Wii controller and an approach to design that’s never anywhere near dull, Rayman’s first foray outside of the platforming world might just prove to be the Wii’s sleeper hit this Christmas.

Rayman Raving Rabbids is easy to pick up, but rather empty as more and more minigames unfold. As such, it is best enjoyed in small doses. The bunnies themselves are the highlight of the experience, bringing twisted humor to what would otherwise be a stale minigame affair. In a way playing Raving Rabbids reminds one of watching television’s Family Guy: most fans don’t watch Family Guy for the basic storylines, but for the random cutaway gags and character moments sprinkled throughout each episode. Comparatively, do not come to Raving Rabbids for the gameplay, but do show up for the bunny antics and bizarre situations. Fun should fall into place soon after.
