July 12, 2007 - The launch of Twilight Princess with the Wii was a first for Nintendo, which has never delivered a Zelda game so early in the life cycle of a new console. So does that mean fans may not be treated to another Zelda project, this time developed exclusively for Wii? Well, at the very least, it looks like it’s going to be awhile, Speaking with IGN Wii, Twilight Princess director Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto collectively indicated that while some ideas are being tossed around for a new Wii Zelda project, nothing is very far along, or set in stone.
Asked if Twilight Princess would be Wii’s last Zelda, Aonuma said, “I can’t say, but I guess for now, maybe, yeah [laughs]. Not to say that it’s going to be the final game. There’s still a lot of potential with the Wii so there’s still a possibility that there could be another Zelda for it. We do have some ideas in the works, but I can’t say for sure because none of them have been approved and we’re still very much in the planning process, so I hope you look forward to whatever comes out.”
While Twilight Princess performed under expectations in Japan, the newly released DS title, Phantom Hourglass, is selling very well, and Nintendo is taking notice of gamers’ reactions. “The Phantom Hourglass has been released in Japan and reception has been very, very positive,” said Aonuma. “We’ve actually been able to receive feedback from the users and we’ll definitely take all of those comments into consideration when creating the next Zelda, whether it be for Wii or DS.”
Shigeru Miyamoto elaborated on the likelihood of another Wii Zelda. “It’s really hard to say because we’ve never had a Zelda that’s appeared so early in the life cycle of the system, so it’s definitely possible that there would be another Zelda on Wii,” he said. “Of course, the challenge is that typically a Zelda game is something that takes three years to develop, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Spielberg’s Wii Game Details from an MSNBC article:
A true artist can find inspiration anywhere. But not many get to find it while playing Wii Tennis against Nintendo’s legendary designer, Shigeru Miyamoto. For director Steven Spielberg, however, that’s just another day out of the office. “Afterwards, we were talking about the Wii and I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun if we could dot-dot-dot?’ ” Spielberg says of his meeting with Miyamoto at a 2006 videogame conference. That dot-dot-dot turned out to be an action-puzzle simulator—code-named PQRS—that neatly blends the creativity of the building-blocks game Jenga with the charm of a Saturday-morning cartoon. It runs on top of a physics program that lets you manipulate blocks with the Wii remote as if it were an extension of your hand. Or, as Spielberg explains for all the non-geeks out there, “It just seemed like a great thing for the entire family to play together over Christmas. Although you don’t need the excuse of a holiday to enjoy it.”

This an excerpt from a CNN Money article:
If you recognize the name Donkey Kong, Mario, or Zelda, you’re familiar with Miyamoto’s work — and if you’ve come within shouting distance of a 14-year-old lately, you’ve probably heard about his latest creation: the Nintendo Wii.
The Wii’s motion-sensitive controller has injected a physical dimension into the videogame business, but the real genius of the Wii may be that it appeals to people outside Nintendo’s traditional middle-school demographic. By marketing the Wii aggressively to 25-to 49-year-olds, Miyamoto is breathing new life into a $30 billion industry that was starting to stagnate.
Key Points:
- Wii is really popular and is sold out a lot (even at NOA Company store)
- Wii Remote is cheap to make
Accelerometer: $2.50
Basic Memory Chip: $0.25
Audio Amplifier: $0.50
Data Converter: $0.50
Rumble Pack: $2.50
Bluetooth Chip: $2.00
Audio Translator: $2.00
Plastic Casing: Unknown
Wrist Strap: Unkown- $50 profit per Wii
- $5 Million to develop Wii game vs $20 Million for PS3 game
-Ubisoft says Nintendo is best console maker to work with
- EA says Nintendo is a pioneer
- Wii’s success has done little to convince Microsoft execs that they’rs on the wrong course (Peter Moore: “I love the experience, the price point and Nintendo content of the Wii, but Microsoft provides experiences that Nintendo cannot provide”)
- CEO of SCE America says give credit to Nintendo but points out that Sony have a innovative controller as well, technology doesnt go backwards and the Wii is a re purposed gamecube
- Sony views the world through the eyes of an engineer while Nintendo takes its cues from the outside world (eg. Pikmin from Miyamoto’s garden)
FUTURE
- Nintendo could stick with the current tech for a few years and then introduce a Wii 2.0 with PS3 tech but cheap- cut $50 of Wii price to compete with future price cuts for MS and Sony
- relationship between Mac/PC - iTune - iPod could be like Wii - DS
- needs more stock, did not expect Wii to be so popular….currently making 1M a month but want 1.5M - 2M but its difficult

An excerpt from a GameDaily interview with David Jaffe (God Of War Creator) that took place during a Nintendo event at GDC:
GameDaily BIZ: So I’m surprised to see you here at a Nintendo event.
David Jaffe: Well I’m with a buddy of mine and she had an invite, and she said, “Hey you wanna go to the Nintendo party?” and I’ve never met Miyamoto before, and maybe he’ll be here, but I don’t know… I love Nintendo. I can’t get my hands on a f***ing Wii. I go to my GameStop every couple mornings, and they’re like, “No, sorry!”
BIZ: [Nintendo of America president] Reggie [Fils-Aime] is right over there; why don’t you go ask him for one?
Jaffe: I don’t know, it’s not like he’s carrying them around like Santa Claus… but I’m grateful to be here. It’s pretty exciting.

During Miyamoto’s keynote speech, Mr. Miyamoto made quick mention of a new channel coming to the Wii. This channel would be a Mii popularity channel, letting is compare our Mii creations with others around the world. It seems that while the US got to see Miyamoto, the Japanese received a Wii message. The message indicated that this new channel would launch on April 29th. No word on this being a worldwide release date or not.
