Star Wars Wii Game Revealed:
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Sept. 18, 2007 – “LucasArts today revealed that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed™ will come to the Wii™ home videogame system from Nintendo next spring, offering owners the unique chance to live out their Jedi fan tasies by wielding the Wii Remote™ as a lightsaber while using the Nunchuk™ controller to torment foes with their Force™ powers.
The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader’s “Secret Apprentice” and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The game’s expansive story is set during the largely unexplored era between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. In it, players will assist the iconic villain in his quest to rid the universe of Jed i – and face decisions that could change the course of their destiny.
The Wii version, in development by Krome Studios, will also add an exclusive duel mode in which players can compete head-to-head with their friends to determine the ultimate Jedi Master.
“The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because t he console’s motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life,” said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. “We’ ve worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force.”

To use the Wii’s functionality, the Complete Saga team essentially added a layer of motion-sensing controls over the primary set. You can press the Z button to build, but if you piston your arms up and down to pantomime the character’s animation, you’ll build much faster. Similarly, you can just press the Z button to use your Force powers, but if you direct them with the Wii’s controls you’ll get a much faster or more powerful response. Although it might not make it into the final build, blaster characters will probably be able to fire their grapples by flicking the remote from down to up. And, finally, you can use the Wii Remote to swing your lightsaber.
If you waggle the Wii Remote, a character armed with a lightsaber will swing it with the same abandon you swing. If you jump or double jump first, you’ll perform a slam or super slam attack. In addition, if you swing when a bolt is incoming, you’ll be able to swat away blaster fire (rather than just having to hold your lightsaber still). Swinging the lightsaber with the Wii Remote is a bit faster than just pressing the trigger, and the effects you generate more powerful, but the real payoff is simply swinging your “lightsaber” in real life.
An excerpt from a Fin24 article:
The head of the LucasArts, the game division for “Star Wars” series creator George Lucas, told AFP a Wii game that lets players wield virtual light sabers is on the horizon.
“The Wii opens up a range of creative possibilities for new and innovative game design,” said Disney Interactive Studios vice president Craig Relyea.
“Our Pirates of the Caribbean game for the Wii lets you slash and thrust with the Wii remote just as someone would do using a sword for combat. We wouldn’t have been able to offer those controls on any other platform.”

Nintendo Dream(Japanese magazine) recently spoke with Shigeru Miyamoto about details concerning the Wii Remote’s speaker, the classic controller, left-handed gaming, and the various projects he is currently working on.
The internal speaker portion of the Wii Remote, announced at E3 2006, was previously considered for removal, Miyamoto claimed. “When we first started talking about the speaker, there was absolutely no reaction,” he explained, referring to those who were made aware of the feature within Nintendo.
However, the speaker gained acceptance as people heard it in action, specifically noticing how swinging the sword in Zelda sounded similar to swinging a Light Saber. Notions of dropping the feature were further quelled when third parties requested that it be left in.
Miyamoto elaborated on some of his game ideas that rely on the internal speaker. In one example the controller calls out a certain player’s name to indicate whose turn it is, while another idea has the controller giving out secret information to individual players.
Miyamoto talked about his experiments with the Wii Remote/Nunchuk combination which involved alternating the hands he uses for controlling the two devices. His outlook for left-handed gamers playing Wii was positive, noting that players can use either device in either hand no matter what game is played.
Miyamoto even expects kids with no previous gaming experience to hold the Wii Remote in their left hand, and the Nunchuk in their right.
In closing, Nintendo Dream asked Miyamoto what games he is directly involved in at this time.
He resisted giving an exact number, explaining that some remain unannounced, but conceded he’s working on “a lot of games”. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, and Wii Sports were specifically mentioned, as well as work on the project coined ‘Remote Pointer Demo’ from E3.
Miyamoto explained the origins of the secondary device and its name. When Nintendo first made demo units, the development staff referred to the device as a nunchuck simply because it looked like one.
Earlier in development, the Wii-mote was referred to as the “Core Unit.” The devices that attached to it were referred to as the “Peripheral Unit.” This naming originated when Nintendo came up with the idea of splitting the controller into separate units.

In a recent interview for The Seattle Times Satoru Iwata comments that he really want a star Wars Game for Wii.
this is the question made to Satoru Iwata when he mentioned a Light Saber Game:
Q: Was it hard to add sound to the Wii’s controller? [It has a speaker embedded in it.]
A: Technically speaking, it’s not very difficult. But if you ask me if any company can do it, I think it would be difficult. That’s a very unique advantage Nintendo has. In terms of hardware, we can work very quickly because Nintendo is the hardware manufacturer as well as the software developer and publisher.
In this case, when somebody suggested the idea of putting the speaker into the Wii remote, the trial software was made immediately so we could test what it would sound like.
We really want [filmmaker George] Lucas to think about making a game where this can be used as a light saber. It should be fun.
