This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Kororinpa: Marble Mania by Snackbar-Games

Kororinpa: Marble Mania is a good game with good physics and interesting levels. It’s nice to see a game implement Wii controls so well that I can honestly say I wouldn’t want to play this game with any other control method because they’re just not accurate enough. If you’re a fan of puzzle games, especially marble or physics based ones, then Kororinpa: Marble Mania will make a great addition to your Wii library.

Kororinpa: Marble Mania is yet another one of those games; simple in design, yet an enjoyable experience through and through. Released by Hudson for the Wii, Kororinpa embodies the spirit of the 1980s arcade classic Marble Madness in a way that the Super Monkey Ball series could only wish it did. In fact, Kororinpa outclasses Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, the Sega franchise’s Wii entry, in just about every way.

With its myriad candy-land levels and abrasively twee melodies, Kororinpa: Marble Mania comes wrapped in a deceptively unassuming package. While the beginning stages start out as simple, straightforward affairs, Marble Mania’s charm belies its fierce challenge curve. But right off the bat, it’s clear that this is the sort of game for which the Wii is truly intended: It’s a game everyone and his mother can enjoy, and it makes great use of the Wii Remote and hardware.

Hudson Entertainment, Konami ship Kororinpa: Marble Mania

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – March 20, 2007 – Hudson Entertainment and Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. today announced Kororinpa: Marble Mania™ exclusively for the Wii™ has shipped to retail stores nationwide. With an inventive control scheme, Marble Mania offers a unique video game experience that is challenging for seasoned gamers, yet highly accessible for players of all ages. While tackling over 100 different obstacle-packed stages, players will experience non-stop action as they use the Wii Remote™ to twist, turn and bounce their marble around the game world.

In Marble Mania, players use 3D motion controls to tilt, spin and flip the environment on three axes and up to 180 degrees in order to guide marbles through each unique maze full of obstacles and contraptions. Adding to the innovative gameplay dynamic, players can gather crystals as they navigate through the maze to unlock new stages and unique marbles. Once each stage is completed, players can use other types of marbles – over 20 in the game with different characteristics and abilities – to retry levels, adding additional replay value.

Marble Mania immerses gamers in five worlds including colorful lands of candies and sweets, lush outdoor mazes and industrial cityscapes. All of these levels offer their own challenges for manipulating the path of your marble. For multiplayer fun, Marble Mania features a split screen mode where two players must race to reach the end goal while collecting the most crystals along the way. With wildly addictive gameplay and increasingly challenging levels, players will find it is hard to put down the Wii Remote once they have set their marble in motion.

Konami and Hudson’s partnership rolls on with the forthcoming Kororinpa: Marble Mania for the Nintendo Wii. Making use of several recognizable traits from both Sega’s Super Monkey Ball series and Atari’s classic Marble Madness, Kororinpa throws players right into several mazes. From there, they twist and turn until the on-screen marble reaches the goal. During the course of the game, mazes increase in difficulty, with obstacles and crystals popping up. Players collect these glowing gems to unlock bonus items, including shiny new marbles for their collection and a bevy of hidden stages. Look for the game March 27.
