More About: Smash Bros Brawl Friend Code
Later in the day on Monday, Nintendo will make your holiday shopping just a little bit easier. If some people on your gift list have visions of classic video games dancing in their heads, you’re in luck. Starting this week, Wii Shop Channel patrons can use a new Gifting feature to send games to other Wii owners with whom they’ve traded Friend Codes. It’s an easy and inexpensive way to give your fellow Nintendo buffs the gift of a classic game—no wrapping paper required. And don’t worry about duplication. If your friend already has the game you’re trying to give, you’ll get a simple message and be bumped back into the catalog to continue shopping.
Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:

This is an excerpt from the Preview of the Nintendo Wii game Mario Strikers Charged by Pro-G
Setting up an online game involved inviting players from a ‘friend list’ that displayed cards detailing adversaries’ total wins, losses and draws, along with an Xbox LIVE style profile. It was not clear how you will invite new friends to your list, but I managed to confirm that the 12 digit ‘friend code’ that identifies you is not the same as your Wii’s own code. That means friend codes could well be different for each game, as with the DS, though details are yet to be released on future Wii online games.
On the whole both Mario Strikers and the Wii as an online gaming platform impressed, offering accessibility and the potential for hilarious fun. Finally, an entire generation of consoles is online, and quickly the past is feeling like a very different world indeed.

Andre Vrignaud of Microsoft had the following to say regarding the Nintendo Wii Friend Codes:
“The online service isn’t there yet — but to be fair, it also wasn’t promised at launch as did Sony. Nintendo is still insisting on using Friend Codes (or Wii number) to identify yourself on the system. This sort of sucks. While they took some good leaps ahead of all of the competition in personalization with the Mii concept, this is a definite throwback.”
“Graphically the Wii won’t blow your socks off. Even Zelda, probably one of the best looking Wii games, only ranges from ‘ok’ to ‘very good’ in my opinion. I’ll also add that the new controls don’t add anything to the Zelda experience — frankly, they were tacked on to help sell Wiis. However, they also don’t negatively impact the game experience so it’s a bit of a wash.”

Details for Pokémon Battle Revolution for Nintendo Wii have been aired over at Dengeki Online. Here’s the skinny:
* Free Battle: Duke it out in a a Coliseum battle. Players can save data to their Wii-mote and then upload it to the software on a completely different Wii. Almost cool enough to make me not loathe Pokémon, but not quite.
* WiFi Battle: Fight with players across with Japan. Well, players whose friend codes you know.
* You can color coordinate outfits for your trainer.
Nintendo Europe have confirmed on their Wii microsite that the Wii won’t have specific friend codes for gamers to connect titles online.
The fact the DS has seperate codes for each game has arguably been seen unfavourably among Nintendo fans, compared to having one user code which stays constant whatever game you’re playing.
