10. Team Ninja’s Itagaki interview excerpt: “(Note: he wants to see Pikmin 3 on Wii…) I think it’s (Wii) a very interesting piece of hardware, and it’d be interesting for us to challenge that area as well. The Wii has kind of carved its own niche within the home console arena. It’s almost in an entire category by itself. I do think that it’s totally different from the DS, though…I think it would depend on how you make it (a hard-core action title on Wii). You would really have to design it for the strengths of the hardware. If you used the kind of control scheme that most developers are using right now for the Wii and tried to do a really hard-core action game, I think people would just throw up their hands and say “No, we can’t deal with that”. The Wii has its own reason for existence. If you don’t adapt what you’re doing to fit that, then there’s not much point in bringing an action game to the platform. (regarding possible Wii action game) I’m currently brain-training about that right now (laughs).”

11. Eiji Aonouma would love to make a “Wind Waker” for the Wii.

12. Geometry Wars: Galaxies - 50-level, new enemies, new multiplayer component, eight hours of gameplay

Game Ratings:
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition - 9.0/10
Ratatouille - 7.5/10
Scarface: The World is Yours - 7.5/10
Harry Potter: OotP - 7.0/10
Pokemon Battle Revolution - 6.5/10
The BIGS - 6.0/10
Legend of the Dragon - 5.5/10

Next Month - Metroid Prime 3, Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption details from the recent issue of Play magazine:
- First level - You are attacked on a spaceship while meeting with the ship’s captain…action packed

- Play feels motion controls work better than dual joystick

- Super sensitive pointer in “advanced” mode

- Beam stacking ala Super Metroid

- Visor switch: Hold minus and flick Wiimote in certain directions

- Boss fight with Ridley at the end of the first level. Excellent difficulty curve by the time you reach the boss.

- Back tracking in MP3:C makes more sense than in previous Primes

- Extra development time was to give the game more polish. Nintendo wanted “Twilight Princess” levels of polish. Game is focused on Metroid fans and hardcore gamers, but still accessible to newcomers due to controls.

- Second level - floating city focused on exploration

- Larger environments, bloom lighting, better textures than Prime 2

- Corruption Mode not available in demo

- Play says it could be the biggest revolution in FPS gaming since Halo.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Call Of Duty 3 by N-Philes

I think for most players this game actually falls somewhere in between “slight pulse” and “steady beat” due to its controls that some people love and other people seem to only get frustrated with. The bottom line, though, is that Call of Duty 3 is the best FPS game on the Wii thus far. And as such, it’s worth at least a rental so you can figure out if you’re the type of person who loves playing FPS games on your Wii, or if you’re better off sticking to shooters on your PC or Xbox 360. If you are one of those Wii FPS guys, and you want a well polished fun single player game with a great since of scale, then look no further than Call of Duty 3. If you’re looking for some multi-player action, or if you turn out to be one of the guys who just can’t get first person to feel right on the Wii, elsewhere would be the place to look when deciding what your next video game purchase should be.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Far Cry Vengeance by Eurogamer

The Wii has one great FPS game to its name; unfortunately, that game is spread out over three distinctly disappointing titles. Combine the look and feel (and swordplay) of Red Steel, with the atmosphere, superb presentation and wonderful level design of Call of Duty 3, and pull it all together with the perfectly honed control system of Far Cry: Vengeance, and you’d have an amazing game. Right now, though, this is a mess. It’s terribly badly presented and utterly lacking in the areas which make the Far Cry franchise great - but through all of that shines a genuinely good, easy to learn and downright fun control scheme.

In deciding on a final mark for Far Cry, it would be easy to weigh up all the things which the game gets wrong and decide that they balance out harshly. However, it’s impossible to escape the fact that playing the game was actually quite compelling, in a sense; at no point was it an unpleasant game to play, it’s merely completely retrograde in several key areas and lacking any sense of presentation or style. It’s an ugly game, but one which, crucially, works as a game at its most basic level - which, to my mind, weighs heavily against the problems it has in most other areas. Be warned, though, that the just-about-average score is not even a particularly cautious recommendation - rather it is a tip of the hat to the key things that Far Cry does right, and a note of hope that better made games in future will learn from its successes rather than falling foul of its failures.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Elebits by Eurogamer

Katamari had bags and bags of charm from the off, and while the Elebits themselves are cute, nothing else about the game is memorable (for the right reasons anyway - you might struggle to dislodge the odious cut-scenes). And where Katamari opened up the possibilities without messing up its simple controls, Elebits starts off complex, and then only makes things worse with each new restriction.

All of which rather betrays Reggie’s belief that it was “something special”. There’s nothing special here. Elebits is a fairly competent FPS tidy-’em-up with a great edit mode, but that’s all.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Call of Duty 3 by Eurogamer

In the final analysis, I can’t really bring myself to intensely dislike COD3. The control system isn’t much fun, and feels unfinished and somewhat unloved - but it is certainly possible to get to grips with it and to eke some enjoyment out of the superbly designed levels of the game.

Even while battling against the limitations of the Wii port of the game, the fact that this is, at heart, one of the finest WWII games around still comes shining through from time to time, and that lifts the game from the doldrums of negativity to the point of being merely disappointingly average. This, we hope, is not the shape of things to come on the Wii, and the existence of games like Metroid, which demonstrate FPS gameplay working superbly on the console, is a beacon of hope for the genre - but right now, if you fancy shooting your way through the hedgerows of northern France, pick up the excellent versions of this game on other platforms, and give the Wii version a miss.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Red Steel by GAME

Despite some indifference, however, Red Steel still comes recommended. It’s not the most sophisticated shooter ever made, but the control system really does show off what Wii can do, while the action in itself is intense, well designed and, above all, enjoyable. Buy this hoping for a truly revolutionary experience, then, and you may be left a touch disappointed, but approach Red Steel expecting an altogether solid FPS, and you’ll discover a game offering clipfulls of fun, with more than a suggestion of what to expecting from future Wii shooters.

This is a excerpt of the Review by 1Up of the Nintendo Wii game Red Steel

Don’t be fooled into thinking Red Steel reinvents the FPS. It’s nothing more than a ho-hum shooter with a creative but flawed gimmick stapled on. Sure, it might not steal the launch lineup, but at least it proves this type of game is welcome on the Wii.
