King of Clubs - a mini golf puzzler
May 8th 2007: Northamptonshire, UK: Oxygen Games™ is finally ready to spill the beans about its enigmatic title, King of Clubs. Possibly one of the most eagerly-anticipated games that nobody knows anything about, King of Clubs features a whole lot of brain-engagin’ fun. In fact, it’s the best in the west!
Never the same game twice, this absorbing and addictive, off the wall mini-golf-based puzzler requires players to use their ingenuity to play their way to victory and lucrative rewards, whether strategically, tactically or by being a downright dirty dawg…! Players must collect, unlock, buy or hire rewards to enable them to complete a variety of puzzles across five themes, on more than 95 holes to build up their equipment and skills. Not only that but with seemingly endless ways of completing each puzzle, King of Clubs offers enormously long-lasting playability.
Set in a dilapidated theme park in the middle of the Nevada desert (rumours abound that it is built on the site of an old nuclear waste site…but we can ignore that), King of Clubs looks like a cross between an amateur theatrical production and a kitsch vintage Americana playground paradise for jerky-lovin’ trailer trash! Complete with pteranodons on poles, spaceships on string and wobbly waves (plus so much more!), each themed world comes complete with its own quirky resident pro/boss, whom players must beat in order to advance to the next level before ending up in a showdown with the top guy himself, Big Bubba King.
An excited Big Bubba, entrepreneur and owner of Big Bubba’s Burger Bar and Truck Stop, where King of Clubs is based, enthuses:
“It’s a real darn’ tootin’ thang I tell ya – them there players kin git ‘emselves all kinda groovy stuff by playin’ alla mah games. There’s a shedload ta choose from an’ a ton o’ ways ta complete ‘em too. But ah should warn ya – that King Putt over near them big tranglier things…he kin be a real Bastet, so ya may wanna watch out fer him!
Y’all haul yer asses o’er here this summer an’ I’ll make sure our Britney gits ya somethin’ real hot…! Oh, an’ ah hear tell it’s possible ta git a hole in none too.”
Somewhat more comprehensibly, Oxygen Interactive’s publishing director, Kevin Hassall says:
“We’ve managed to take the mental challenge traditionally associated with puzzle games, and create a fresh, really quirky social experience that’s perfect for the way people play games today.”
With multiple game modes and the choice of matchplay or strokeplay for up to four players using either a multi-tap or sharing two controllers, plus the chance on every hole to score a one-shot win, King of Clubs will be available in August for PC, Wii™ and the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Nintendo DS™ and PSP® (PlayStation ®Portable) system versions will follow shortly thereafter.

ExciteTruck may not live up to its amazing NES and N64 predecessors, but it certainly holds its own on the Wii so far, proving to be a far better racing experience than both Ubisoft’s efforts, Disney’s Cars and EA’s Need for Speed: Carbon…and yet it feels incomplete to some degree. With solid sales around the world so far, hopefully Nintendo will green light a sequel so Monster Games can show us what they are really made of. Brilliant fun, nonetheless, but it has short-lived appeal…

Ultimately Wii Play is nothing more than a couple of laughs and contains some interesting concepts for future games. At long last Where’s Wally? has a chance to be represented in the gaming market. If you need the extra Wiimote then this will make a fine addition to your gaming collection. If not you are not missing out on anything as industry moving as Zelda and Wii Sports. A shame we got this instead of Excite Truck but beggars cannot be choosers.

Konami announced that Dewy’s Adventuer Wii is in development. The Game ( headed by Shingo Mukaitoge, who produced Elebits) is an action-platformer that fully utilizes the flexibility of the Wii controller. Below, is an Excerpt of the IGN interview about the game

Nintendo has a new event coming up entitled “Nintendo Burton Demo Tour”. Wii will be there. Details here:
Nintendo joins the premier winter sports event of the year, the Burton Demo Tour, and brings the red-hot Wii to the snowy slopes.
The tour runs through March 19 and culminates with the US Open of Snowboarding March 16-19 at Stratton Mountain, Vt. The Burton Demo Tour gives snow angels and devils a chance to take all the latest Burton gear out on the snow for free.
In addition to all the latest in snow sports, event-goers can get their hands on the popular Wii console. Take a break from the snow and sample some of the most innovative titles in gaming, such as Wii Sports, Excite Truck, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam.
It’s the largest consumer demo in the snowboard world. To see if it’s coming to a mountain near you, check out the Events listing.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii Game Monster 4×4 by Aussie-Nintendo
Monster 4×4 - Overall, I think what Monster 4X4 does best is fill the void left by Excite Truck and the empty space of a fun, multiplayer racer at launch – but even then, it’s really no match at all. It most certainly is by no means revolutionary, and the delay of Nintendo’s star game has certainly favoured Ubisoft. With the addition of the Steering Wheel, there’s clearly extra value, although it does little beyond being making the experience a little more realistic, and easier on the hands. If you’re in dire need of a shallow but nonetheless enjoyable arcade-style racing experience, it may be worth picking up – especially from the bargain bin. But, if you’re expecting something deep and really new, you’ll need to look elsewhere. This is a rehashed Xbox game, afterall.
