Nintendo is very concerned with doing our part to help preserve the environment. We’re always researching new products and procedures to make our products and operations as environmental-friendly as possible.
Some things Nintendo is already doing:
In our offices:
– We recycle the paper we use company-wide.
– We limit our use of colored paper, since it’s not easily recycled.
– We purchase recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads.
– We currently recycle more than 70% of the waste that is generated at our headquarters.
– We actively promote the recycling of aluminum cans and glass in our corporate cafeterias.
In our products:
– We use at least 80% recycled paper in all of our shipping packaging.
– We no longer use Styrofoam in our game pak or Game Boy packaging.
– All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper.
– We no longer use plastic Game Pak covers.
– Our clamshell packaging is recyclable and most recycling centers accept it.
– We require that manufacturers not use any banned substances (such as lead, mercury, etc.) in components, nor use them in the manufacturing process for any components used inside of our products. This requirement also extends to suppliers of packaging, marketing materials, and other items used in the marketing and distribution of our products.

Nintendo applauds US government’s strong position against piracy in China
REDMOND, Wash., April 10, 2007 - Nintendo of America Inc. today announced its strong support of the U.S. Trade Representative seeking formal consultations with China regarding its failure to meet World Trade Organization obligations concerning intellectual property protection and enforcement in China. As part of its uncompromising campaign against international piracy, Nintendo continues to be an outspoken supporter of the U.S. government, given that more than 7.7 million counterfeit video game products from more than 300 Chinese factories and retailers have been seized during the past four years.
Despite aggressive efforts for the past decade, China has built itself to be the leading production site and exporter for counterfeit Nintendo video game products, and has the largest domestic consumption. Despite the millions of counterfeit Nintendo products seized from retailers and manufacturing plants in China through the years, there has only been one criminal prosecution. Numerous factories, where tens of thousands of counterfeit Nintendo products were seized, escaped with only trivial fines or no penalty at all. And often these production sites continue to operate after products are seized. In order to avoid punishment, many counterfeiters are sophisticated and keep stock levels below the criminal thresholds and avoid keeping sales records.
Each year Nintendo participates in the Special 301 process - the annual process by which the U.S. Trade Representative solicits views from the industry and makes judgments about the adequacy of intellectual property laws and enforcement in foreign countries. This year, Nintendo provided evidence to the U.S. Trade Representative regarding piracy in China, Hong Kong, Brazil, Mexico and Paraguay. The piracy not only affects Nintendo, but also more than 100 other companies who independently create, license, market and sell Nintendo products. In 2006, the estimated loss due to piracy was $762 million.
“Nintendo will continue to work with the U.S. government while aggressively pursuing counterfeit Nintendo products in China,” says Jodi Daugherty, Nintendo of America’s senior director of anti-piracy. “We’re pleased the U.S. government is pushing China to comply with its trade commitments in an effort to protect the lifeblood of the copyright and trademark industries.”
Andre Vrignaud of Microsoft had the following to say regarding the Nintendo Wii Friend Codes:
“The online service isn’t there yet — but to be fair, it also wasn’t promised at launch as did Sony. Nintendo is still insisting on using Friend Codes (or Wii number) to identify yourself on the system. This sort of sucks. While they took some good leaps ahead of all of the competition in personalization with the Mii concept, this is a definite throwback.”
“Graphically the Wii won’t blow your socks off. Even Zelda, probably one of the best looking Wii games, only ranges from ‘ok’ to ‘very good’ in my opinion. I’ll also add that the new controls don’t add anything to the Zelda experience — frankly, they were tacked on to help sell Wiis. However, they also don’t negatively impact the game experience so it’s a bit of a wash.”

SOLUTION: This game device is equipped with a display device, an optical member, a touch panel, and a game processing means. In the game device, the display device displays a game image. The optical member has a structure which consists of a bundle of fiber-like transparent members, the shape of one surface of the input/output surfaces which are formed on both ends of the transparent member is a flat surface, and at the same time, the shape of the other surface is an approximately spherical curved surface, and the optical member is arranged in such a manner that the flat surface may come into contact with the display surface of the display device. The touch panel covers the curved surface section of the optical member. The game processing means performs a game processing for changing the game image in response to inputs to the touch panel.
