In a new interview conducted by Japanese newspaper Nikkei Business Publications, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata commented this:
“The current design for game controllers was determined by Nintendo, so some of our staff disagreed with changing it. Yet after some hands-on time with the prototypes, we knew we had a working formula. That is why I declared at last year’s E3 that revolutionary interfaces will bring change to future games.”
Regarding the idea behind the Wii platform’s Virtual Console, which will allow for the digital distribution of online games, demos, and other content, Iwata stated in the interview:
“When creating a packaged game to be priced at 5,000 yen, developers tend to feel the need to create a rich game. Yet it is possible to create a reasonably entertaining game in 2 months with a team of three.”
“Offering such games for 500 yen over a network could lead to a reasonable number of people purchasing it. By offering an environment that allows this, we hope to encourage more developers to pursue basic yet enjoyable gameplay.”
Turning to WiiConnect 24, which was announced at E3 as a way for the Wii platform to stay connected to the internet and communicate even while not in use, Iwata gave this example to the publication: “Let’s say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii’s to their Nintendo DS’s.”

EasyNintendo.net spoke to Xavier Poix of Ubisoft in an exclusive interview which suggests that Wii is much more powerful then what was originally thought. The following is what was revealed in the interview in terms of specifications of the Wii:
CPU is comparable to an AthlonXP 2400+ to an AthlonXP 3000+. This new revelation shows that the clock speed is possibly between 2.0 Ghz to 2.2 Ghz but can perform much better as AthlonXP’s do.
GPU is comparable to an ATi Radeon X1400 and X1600. In comparison to the Xbox 360, the GPU on the 360 is sometimes compared to an X1800.
As for Red Steel it will have 4x Antialiasing and 8x Anisotropic Filtering.
Wii will have around 8 Pixel Pipelines (which suggests that if the GPU according to IGN was at 243Mhz, the number of MPixels is at 1944 compared to Gamecube’s 648).
GPU processes physics, in the sense that it takes a load off of the CPU. For EDRAM, 2MB for framebuffer, 2MB for Zbuffer and 4mb for texture cache.
RAM Speed at 640Mhz. Gamecube was at 325Mhz.
This Nintendo Wii specs are not official so take it as a fundamented wii rumor

Masahiro Sakurai has updated the Japanese website with some replies about Super Smash Bros. Brawl again. Yet again, it’s bad news. “This time, we’d like to stress easiness over the small details of combat, so overall it might become somewhat easier.” Easiness? This is not good.
He also had another update about characters. He says that just because a character is popular in Japan doesn’t mean he will be using it.

Critics crowned the Wii “Best of Show” after game enthusiasts at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) waited hours to get their hands on the Nintendo Co. Ltd. machine due later this year. They raved about how its new controller allowed them to play sports games like tennis and football much in the same way they are played in real life.
“It’s a great story and it’s something different,” said Geoff Keighley, co-chairman of the Game Critics Awards, an independent group of journalists from 37 North American media outlets that cover the video game industry.
Wii also won for “Best Hardware” and Nintendo’s “Wii Sports” title took home the prize for “Best Sports Game.”

Snake? Snake! SNAAAAAAAKE!
The unexpected participant from Metal Gear Solid!
When this was first announced to the media, it was greeted with shouts of joy that resembled screams.
After much consideration, we decided to have Snake refrain from using real-world guns—instead, he’ll use lots of explosives.
What kinds of attacks will Snake unleash when he steps onto a new stage?
You’ll have to wait and see.

***** UPDATE: Nintendo Wii Release Date: November 19 *****
Nintendo Wii Release Date Could Be November 6
According to an industry source speaking to Cubed3, the Nintendo Wii is set to launch in the “Thanksgiving period in the USA,” with Japanese and European launches set to be “in the same timeframe”.
With Nintendo trying for a worldwide launch of their new system, this would probably lead to the system coming out marginally before in Japan and “a few weeks later in Europe.”
