“In a way I understand why people say [we stole Nintendo’s idea], but it is a little stupid, if you forgive the remark. When we brought the PlayStation to the market in 1994, we introduced real time 3-D graphics for the first time.
When Nintendo launched its N64 in 1996 it also had 3D graphics, did we say, “Nintendo stole our idea!”? Obviously not. Such innovations become possible because of a combination of technology, cost and manufacture capacities. We’ve been working on [motion-sensing technology] for a long time and Nintendo has certainly likewise already been working on something similar.
The difference between our strategy and that of our competition is that our controller is still similar to the Dual Shock, the industry standard controller. I estimate that nearly 400 million Dual Shock controllers have been sold worldwide.” - Sony’s Phil Harrison
When asked how many PS3 games would use the motion-sensing function in its first year, Harrison said that he thinks “all games will use the function somehow.” Harrison continued, “If you play a platform or soccer game now, you move the controller around,” he added.
“Now for the first time we can use both the primary input, executed by the analog sticks, and at the same time use the movements that the player makes as a secondary input. That is an important advantage, which only the PlayStation controller has.”

That’s bullsmack. Putting motion sensing technology into a standard controller is a waste. When you move the controller, you move both of your hands in the same direction to tilt the controller. It will give many people hand cramps within a matter of hours. Wii’s setup is much more desirable. It’ll give you a free feeling when moving the controller around instead of cramps in the hand.
What Phil Harrison said is true, but they he is hiding something. There was an old game for Game Boy Color by the name of “Kirby Tilt and Rumble.'’ In this game , you tilted and shook the Game Boy Color in order to move Kirby around. What the Wii has is totally ifferent; it’s true motion sensing technology and not limited to just tilting and shaking. No offense to Hal Laboratory because that was six years ago, but Sony using it now for their PS3 three years later, totally pathetic.
Excuse me, in the sentence, “No offense to Hal Laboratory because that was six years ago, but Sony using it now for their PS3 three years later, totally pathetic.” the “three” should’ve been a six. (even more embarrasing for Sony)
it’s crap.. but why didn’t playstation fans go on a discussion to say: nintendo stole our idea
that’s because nintendo-fans are more !
WII (or we) will rule the world with nintendo’s wii
NL: oké dat was een nintendo-fanboy uitspraak
What BS, they introduced 3D real time graphics, excuse me? And the SEGA Saturn was where when this happened? That is right, 2 weeks before your shitty PS1 came out.
Further to that Nintendo did if earlier with Star Fox: http://leongreen.wordpress.com/2006/05/31/sonys-head-game-designer-lies-through-teeth/
Why even talk about Saturn/Starfox, when there was the arcade? Plus the 3DO. Which, was the first real time 3D home console.
3D was 1st done on console with real polygons on the sness with the 3d fx chip and on the amiga 1200 with fps games were does he get the nerv to chat this vile shite his BLATANTLY LIEING and ps1 wasnt 3d it had low specs and a control pad from the 2d era it had a d-pad and a set of buttons like a sness pad they gave the pad anologs and rumble AFTER N64 CAME OUT n64 was the 1st 3D console as it had true 3d rendering with 64 bit cpu and a high powered vector unit and you controlled the games via a anolog stick MARIO WAS THE 1ST VIDEO GAME IN HISTORY WITH 3D STICK 3D GRAPGICS AND 3D MOVING CAMERA ALL AT THE SAME TIME sony your lieing again
Yea, Star Fox and Stunt Race FX on the SNES were great, ohh and not to forget Dirt Trax FX and Doom. Anyhows to my understanding the PS3 only has basic Tilt functions. I thinks this is nothing compared to Nintendo’s Wiimote, which is able to sense complete movements and such. But yea, I do think it’s just a quick copy attempt, and doubt they have been working on it a “long time”, as why arn’t they able to combine it with Dual Shock? Finally I think Sony has pulled a dark cloud over their heads, and fed people negative thought of them.
OF COURSE THERE ARE LOTS OF DUAL SHOCK CONTROLLERS!! THEYRE USED IN EVERY MODERN HOME CONSOLE!!! And that “original idea” thing is crap. The closest to original Ive ever seen on the PS’s is EyeToy.
Yeah, 400 million controller sold because they’re so fucking flimsy everyone has to replace them nearly every 5 months.
And about the 3D shit argument: lol, Sony != first.
What the heck the 64 was anounced in 1993 before the playstaion was introducing 3D graphics. What is he talking about?
