Nintendo has announced that IBM has finished developing the CPU, codenamed “Broadway”. IBM had previously developed the processor for Nintendo’s current system, the GameCube. Nintendo has also announced that Canadian graphics card maker ATI Technologies is developing the GPU, codenamed “Hollywood”, for Wii. In an interview ATI’s Public Relations Manager for Consumer Products, John Swinimer, confirmed that “Hollywood” has not been developed from PC architecture but developed specifically for the Wii ‘from the ground up’.

They developed the Wii hardware for 5 years I doubt they would put in some outdated hardware from 6 years ago in their new console.
There are some technologies out in 2006 that can be implemented in Wii at a nice price point without it being abosolute trash performance wise.

the whole over clocked gamecube oh PLEASEEE thats typical of ign they see nintendo on to something so they become sony zealots and try to piss on nintendos fire,,, ITS PATHETIC hollywood is custom ..hardware based physics hinted at ,all new broadway gamecentric cpu dedicated gamecentric dsp (sound processor) high speed gamecentric media drive NOT SLOW DVD NOT SLOW BLURAY…so expect mind mending perforance out of that tiny box and levels of gameplay and interaction thats simply imposable on 360/ps3

It’s fuuny how every one says it’s an over clocked when it’s actualy more like a new release of a PC graphics card with new features added. I mean where are the Hardware guys now? We got a whole bunch of simple minded gamers posting now. I guess we can thank sony for that. Really the Over clocked statemnet is more of a fact for the xbox 360 and ps3. Isn’t that the main reason most people are gonna buy one…LOL 3 Ghz and HD.

Really if you need power then your just pissing your self off buying a console… as directx 10 will crush the “HD” revolution for consoles.

Also people talk about the valus of HD and the new dvd formats…LOL please… Tell me why do you really need a new dvd player? Is there a problem with your current dvd player? and really do you really think it’s gonna cost sony 400-1000 doaller to make a blue ray player? Also too I wonder how long it is before the news of warner bros making a laser that reads both HD and blue ray…ouch… If true would make the blue ray in the ps3 a tax rather than a need… becuase it will not play other HD dvds.
