This is an excerpt from the First Look Impressions of the Nintendo Wii Game Metroid Prime 3: Corruption by GamePro:

We just got back from a marathon gaming session, and Metroid was one of the most interesting titles that we played at Nintendo’s super-secret, invite-only gaming session.

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption Definitely stole the the show. The graphics looked amazing — better than Halo 2 on the Xbox without a doubt — and the levels showed off sparkling details, proving the Wii is far more powerful than the Gamecube. Out of all the games we played, the Wii controller seemed most at home with Metroid.

You don’t fire with your index finger, but with your thumb (using the A button). This sounds a little goofy, but in practice it worked very, very well. You could press the directional pad to fire rockets or enter your scanning mode, and the trigger (aka the B button) handled jumps very nicely. Samus has a few new moves that take advantage of the motion-sensitive controller. By locking onto a target and thrusting the left nunchuku forward, Samus could launch a grappling beam. The beam is similar to Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun, but was mostly used to push rubble out of the way, open grates, or in a nice touch, yank shields from enemy hands. The other major Wii functionality was that some control panels needed to be lifted, rotated, and pushed back into slots — these movements were all handled on the Wii controller.

Hold up Wiiboy that was halflife 2 that used the gravity gun. Also too for a inferior system it can use stuff like a gravity gun and it sounds like the shader libaries are starting to kick ass. secumfex your right I want a controller config also. I loved the DS version until i realized they took out my favorite config. Let us put it on hardcore and tweak as much as we want. Also too give us multiplayer too! Metroid could easily beat out halo in multiplayer. They even have better level design.

I’m open minded when it comes to disputes over halo and metroid. My general opinion is to buy ‘em all and enjoy ‘em all. metroid prime 3 will be right up there with halo 3 when it comes to popularity and I intend to enjoy them both!

Halo 2 was graphically impressive for XBOX. Wiiboy, you need to be less fanboyish and a little more realistic. Metroid games had great graphics, but small enviornments most of the time. Halo 2 was meant to have huge enviornments, and therefore had to cut down a little on the amount of things in those enviornments. Halo 2 was the flagship title on XBOX and was a pretty game. For Gamepro to say it’s definately better than Halo 2 is like saying the Wii is definately more powerful than the original Xbox as that was it’s flagship fps game. From the sounds of it, they were also impressed with the effects the Wii could muster and the framerates, this is all great news for Wii fans and shouldn’t be taken as anything else until we see it with our own eyes.

His ramblings aren’t so incoherent and most of the points are valid. I have to concur with his statement that RE4 has visuals closest to the new generation from the old … and yes the PS2 port was TERRIBLE from a technical view point compared to the Cube, but there were extras like the Ada Wong Chapters although they were simply a re-run of old levels with a few plot confirmations added in (sorry for long sentence). A quote from the PS2 IGN (think it was that one) review is that the villager’s faces are 4-16 pixel smears where the women and men are indestinguishable due to appauling clarity. Still, the game deserves recognition. What I am suprised aboout is that GameSpot rate the PS2 version higher than the Cube version, despite the technical shortcomings and the less-tight controls (generally less immersive). wiiboy2007, the fact that Gamepro compared MP3 to Halo 2 can be interpreted your way or in a more positive light, saying that the Wii can definitely smash the Xbox up visually, puting all the rumors to rest. WOW wii boy you got some dirt there… I first saw this on G4 TV really bad. So what do you think? Are this american companies trying to snub nintendo? It looks that way. Most of these guys are jerks with crappy reviews. I usualy go to small time site and blogs for reviews. You have to look at what the reviewer likes and see if he’ll jugde the game fare.

Your right though… Alot of sites and mags are too childish to give the crown back to nintendo for what ever reason. This is all political moves by MS really. These are all american companies here and Famistu(sp?) does the same in japan. They big up the PS3 like crazy and are currently running polls to put water on the devistating release of a dragon quest on the DS. If these companies are on some ones bank roll then isn’t it missleading to review competitions games? I mean I’m sure Most xbox 360 stuff would get the boring crap rating from what I’ve seen and I wanted to get one and a playstation 3.

Also I see the Halo comparison as a good thing in a way but I’m sorry after playing prime hunters ctf with morph balls and bombs would be sick! Metroid would but so much better as a multiplayer game than Halo it seems.

Maybe thats all they know? I mean alot of people arn’t growing up with 4 systems on the market. most of them only see one or two systems. I grew up with first with atari, nintendo, master systems, game boys, lynxsecond wave was neo geos, snes, genesis, turbo graphx, ps1s and pc engines with your normal PCs.

Having Said that most of the games such as Rayman and Zelda were WAAYYY too short. And Zelda just kinda left me hangin’ with not knowing WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? After Windwaker it shows them leaving off again, But in (WARNING: ENDING AHEAD if you havn’t beaten Twilight Princess DO NOT READ)

Twilight Princess it just shows him riding back through the woods back to his village….maybe i don’t really know, but with Windwaker i still knew what was going on, it just left me with an Accomplished Feeling, Twilight Princess, it was just,……I dont Know…..It felt wrong, the game was good and all but, it felt like it was beaten before its time.

um…they love the game, they said NOTHING bad about it. I can’t wait to buy this game…BETTER HAVE ONLINE!!!
