According an article on Mozlapunk site, they recently spoken to a “reliable source” who claims that Nintendo’s Wii console will be capable of displaying graphics that “will be visually on par with the Xbox 360 and may even exceed it slightly.

The gamers’ favourite IGN reported a while back ago that it had spoken to some third party developers who were working on the Nintendo Wii system and was told that the hardware that they were currently working on wasn’t going to prove any competition to either Microsoft’s Xbox 360, or Sony’s PlayStation 3 in the graphical department.

Mozla’s source is announcing that the developer kits that IGN based its theories on weren’t actually final development kits, and that the only developers who owned these kits are either second party developers or Nintendo themselves.

The only third party company that Mozlapunk is aware of who have a final development kit is Square Enix, who are the developers behind Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles and the hugely popular Dragon Quest series, both of which are Wii bound.

I don’t own an XBOX 360, (hardcore Nintendo fan!!!) but I was at Best Buy today and playing a demo for the XBOX 360. Those graphics were indeed great and I’d have to say the best thing about Microsoft’s console. If Nintendo could top those graphics or at least equal them, it would be a huge sucess for the Wii because it would have the graphics and the uncomparable controller. That would make it 2 for the Wii (graphics, controller) and 1 for XBOX 360 (graphics). This is from a Nintendo’s fan point of view, but would you disagree?

I worked for ATI during the design process for the Wii’s “Hollywood” chip, so I know what I am talking about. The rumors of the Wii comparing to 360 graphical technology are 100% falsified.When Nintendo first approached ATI about creating a chip for the “New Wave” as it was code named then, their primary target was a console of X-Box caliber. Not until X-Box 360 specs started ciculating did Nintendo push the envelope for a chip with more raw horse power than that of the current gen consoles. I quit ATI in spring 05′ and at that time the central core power of the ATI “Hollywood” chip was at my best estimation was somewhere between the X-box and the 360. The best tech demos we had on display in our offices DID NOT compare to the likes of games such as Gears of War. In any case Nintendo is banking that the innovative product will outpace the tech specs, which in my opinion will be their undoing. If the Wii isn’t a success this will be the last Nintendo home console (not portable) we will see. That I know for 100% certain.

well to me graphics isn’t everything, but still having improved visuals and fidelity with todays hi-def gaming makes the experience a little bit more real. Isn’t this the point of games? Really!, I think of it as an escape of our reality and everyday lives. Just to hold a controller and see your gun fully loaded ready to assault on an enemies base or whatever, is what it’s about. But it’s how this is all displayed. from the lighting, to the animations, and as well the sound quality this is what drives a fun game into an experience that we all want to have. So really having a console with some power under it’s little hood can have an impact on what you want from games, wheter it’s graphics or gameplay, we’ll have to wait and see how fun that Wii can be. Are we going to be slapping ourselves silly, spinning in circles, basically looking like we are having a seizure just to control our character? or will this little device Wii on all the other consoles.

On the other hand what good games are there for the wii besides mario and zelda, the ps3 and xbox have way better games. Resistance is gonna be mad good on the ps3 and halo 3 is gonna be the best game on the market when it comes out. So the wii SUCKS, and its gonna look mad gay having to swing your controller to swing your sword.

Yeh well its about time these fat gamers got up and did some exercise! I personally think it will be the next step to the Star Trek Holodeck. For me Graphics will be a decider, but i want the Wii to have at least a Radeon 1950 based GPU, and has HD output (preferably 1080p), but the controller looks ‘INNOVATIVE’.

Okay if you think about it all the wii is , is a gamecube with new controllers. I saw it at my local game retailer and the graphics didnt look much different from the cube.

Yeap it’s offical we got an improvemnet (looks at new SBB and the new pokemon real time effects) but no xbox 360 preformace. it’s cool though cuz the graphics have a pretty good presentation. I kinda like how nintendo limited the box. It makes it realy easy to see who actualt crafted a game rather than made a bunch of high res digital camera textures. I’d say we got exactly what we where told 2.5 time preformace boost with better shader pipelines. I’m still wondering how much this thing can be pushed though. Most of these lauch games are using a GC like engine though because there is no way Zelda was made for the Wii if pokemon can end up looking better. Thats a GC engine with last minute Wii effects I bet. Frame buffer effects are there though. Just wondering if normal mapping will be in future games.

Look for “beter” graphics in 07 until then every one will be building new engines or making money off the GC engine. I’m pretty happy with it’s graphics though. It’s what I expected given it’s small case. There are still alot of unknows about it’s power though. and how far it can go. With the factor 5 guys gone nintendo needs some one else to make that graphic benchmark game it seems, although Mario Galax had some nice things going on in there.

okay i’m a huge zelda, mario fan and have always been.. i have had every nintendo console and have always been happy with the performance and graphics, but that is because it has always been pretty “next gen”. i boght both the xbox 360 and have just bought a nintendo wii.. and let me tell you guys.. I am not happy with the results! the 360 have really great graphics and some really nice games, and the wii has a fun control experience and some! good games (most af the games you will only buy if you are under the age of 10 or so) but really bad graphics!! this is SOO far from what i expected from nintendo so i am really disappointed.. if they had made a console with great great gameplay and just up to date graphics i would be thrilled! but in my mind you don’t realese a gameconsole that is no way near the up to date graphic that is curently availible! i don’t care that the graphic isn’t the best, but please.. if the graphics were only near the 360, i would not even have kept my 360 but now i have to sell my wii because it almost makes me mad every time i start a game, that looks like the GC! i will finish zelda of course, but when that is done its out of here!! and believe me i am actually a hardcore nintendo fan, but i’m afraid they didn’t won in any way in this console race.. they actually in my opinion sucked big time with the wii:-( i really hope that nintendo will learn a leasson with the wii and in some way see that grahic don’t mean everything BUT it do mean something god dammit!… lets get back to the N64 days with up to date graphic and fun gameplay in ONE machine!!! i have never had more fun and been more impressed than when i plugged my n64 to the tv and started playing mario 64 and zelda!!:-)

Well this was an informative and I must say somewhat entertaining forum. I bought a wii today and have yet to open it. I hope that the grahics aren’t only GC qualityt that would be somewhat dissapointing. I guess I’ll have to go plug it in and see. I have an I.Q. of 140.

I just got done playing Super Metroid wearing noting but a g-string and those 16-bit graphics are plenty good enough for me.

AHAHA. ok…. The wiis puni 7.29 GHZ process is no watch against the 3 3.2 GHZ processers of the xbox 360s. And is the 242MHz graphics card is also NO WHERE close to xboxs 500Mhz 1337 as hell ATI from oblivion….. What im trying to say is. The hardware speicifications between the Wii, and the Xbox 360, even the PS3, are nowhere near close. As a wii owner I’m kind of disappointed either about the some wii game that has horrible graphics… However, I heard some rumors in some other forum threads that nintendo wii is capable of performing better graphical performance than you guys think…
