Nintendo’s Virtual Console feature is set to offer a similar experience like Xbox Live Arcade.
What do the people behind Microsoft’s ‘Arcade think? Greg Canessa (Group Manager), has spoken in an interview with Joystiq and here’s what he had to say in response to Nintendo’s offering.
“We invented this space. We’re the iTunes of games and we’ve been in the space for two years now. It took us a long time to build up Arcade and the platform and the service and hundreds of developers and relationships. So, we take a proactive approach to this market. What Nintendo does or doesn’t do is up to them. I have a lot of respect for Nintendo, I’m a personal fan, but I can tell you that we’re going to be exhibiting leadership and not reacting to what they do. We are going to maintain leadership in this space because we are so far ahead.”

Nintendo is resurrecting Mario Paint with the announcement of
Mario Spraypaint Wii for the Nintendo Wii! Read the press release for yourself!
The time is right for Mario Spraypaint,” stated Tatsumi Kimishima, CEO of Nintendo America. “With the outstanding success of the Nintendo DS, consumers crave the unique and creative licenses that Nintendo has always been known for. We are very excited to bring Mario Spraypaint to the Wii. We are expecting great success.”
Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo America, is also hopeful. “The unique Wii controller will lend a genuine feel to Mario Spraypaint. You will use your own natural motions to create legal street art. The speaker embedded in the Wii controller will even make a hissing sound, as if you were holding an actual spray can,” said Reggie, very pleased with the work of the developers. “We are almost done with the can shaking matrix down. You will have to experience to believe it.”
Nintendo America has not provided a release date for Mario Spraypaint, but are optimistic that Q2 2007 will be manageable for a release in Japan, while Q4 2007 can be expected for America and Europe.
