Caught off-guard with the success of the Wii and looking for a quick fix, several publishers have tacked motion controls on to their existing games. It hasn’t turned out well. The difference with Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition is twofold: the game they started with is a masterpiece, and the Wiimote controls are implemented perfectly.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Mario Party 8 by Vooks
All in all, Hudson’s 8th iteration of the Mario Party series is a solid outing, there’s heaps to do, it’s amazing fun with your mates and it is a great ice breaker for anyone playing. Unfortunately, the game does suffer graphically but it’s nothing you’ve haven’t seen before on Nintendo’s newest system. For fans of the previous games, this may be a bit much of the same to you, but for people who haven’t really touched the franchise since it’s first foray onto the Gamecube (Mario Party 4 or 5), it could be the breathe of fresh air that the series was desperately needing. All in all Hudson have definitely done a good job in making the game fresh enough to utilise the WiiMote controls without making them stale and repetitive.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game The Grim Adventures Of Billy And Mandy by Cubed3
It’s a shame, but Grim is only likely to hold your attention for a couple of hours at most. It doesn’t have the diversity, length, or overall competency to make it worth buying unless you’re a massive fan of the series or very young and easily pleased. Steer clear of this one – it’s simply not worth buying.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Pokemon: Battle Revolution by 1up
So what’s the point of Battle Revolution, then, if all it does is duplicate a portion of the real Pokémon games in a less-fulfilling way? Honestly, not much. Those who have drained every last moment of enjoyment from the DS game might appreciate it as a way to eke a little more challenge from the experience. And really obsessive types might appreciate the fact that the announcer guy from the cartoon performs (highly repetitious) running commentary during in-game battles. Everyone else, though, will simply regard this as a waste of money.

The experiment is a success and testament to the fact that EA really has been spending more time crafting these games as the movies and books become more ambitious. If Half-Blood Prince produces the same leap in concept as we’ve seen here, Potter fans will really be in for something.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Shrek The Third by CVG
Funnily enough, the game feels a tad God of War-sy. Whether it’s combo rankings, button bashing to open crates, collecting blue orbs to activate a slow-mo rage mode, or Donkey fighting a 100ft mechanised Colossus of Rhodes (made up fact) the game plays like PS2’s blood spiller. But, y’know, for ‘the kids’.
The kids will forgive monotony. They shouldn’t, however, forgive licence laziness. The writing is painfully poor, cutscenes star characters interpreted by animatronic dummies and the original cast is shamefully absent. When a narrating John Cleese sounds more like Donkey than the guy they’ve actually hired2 you know you’re in trouble.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree by AMN
If you’re looking for a simple but strangely addictive multiplayer Wii game, Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree is it. It’s easy enough that non-gamers can play it and still entertaining enough that even the snobbiest hardcore gamers will get sucked in. The small number of problems in Wii Degree is a disappointment, and ultimately it keeps it from being something much greater (it’s the game’s biggest problem, really). Unfortunately, the entry price is a bit high considering this. But the game is a lot of fun while it lasts and is the recipe for laugh-out-loud multiplayer gaming sessions to unite non-gamers with just about any kind of gamer out there.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Mario Strikers Charged byPALGN:
Mario Strikers Charged Football is a game that is very easy to recommend. If you’re a serious football fan then wait for FIFA 08 but if you love Mario and friends and want to have a bit of fun on the soccer pitch then you won’t be disappointed by Strikers Charged. As the first game to utilise Wi-Fi there are still improvements to be made but overall it’s a very respectable debut for Nintendo’s foray into online gaming for the Wii.

This is an excerpt from the Review of the Nintendo Wii game Heatseeker by Cubed3
The game itself revolves round a fictional world conflict, mainly set in the Pacific. As such, the majority of the game sees you cruising over oceans and islands, allowing the developers plenty of empty space in which to throw wave upon wave of enemy fighters at you. This they do, and the dogfights, in general, are very well executed and excellent fun. There’s a plethora of planes to choose from, and each one handles slightly differently and can be equipped with different weapons, including air to air missiles and ground attack weapons. All of these weapons are used at some point during most missions, and it feels incredibly involving to simultaneously have to balance weapon selection, altitude, angle of attack, and gun fire all at once. Despite the arcade nature of the game, it’s bloody hard.
