Nintendo is very concerned with doing our part to help preserve the environment. We’re always researching new products and procedures to make our products and operations as environmental-friendly as possible.
Some things Nintendo is already doing:
In our offices:
– We recycle the paper we use company-wide.
– We limit our use of colored paper, since it’s not easily recycled.
– We purchase recycled paper towels, report covers, message pads, and writing pads.
– We currently recycle more than 70% of the waste that is generated at our headquarters.
– We actively promote the recycling of aluminum cans and glass in our corporate cafeterias.
In our products:
– We use at least 80% recycled paper in all of our shipping packaging.
– We no longer use Styrofoam in our game pak or Game Boy packaging.
– All of our instruction manuals are printed on recycled paper.
– We no longer use plastic Game Pak covers.
– Our clamshell packaging is recyclable and most recycling centers accept it.
– We require that manufacturers not use any banned substances (such as lead, mercury, etc.) in components, nor use them in the manufacturing process for any components used inside of our products. This requirement also extends to suppliers of packaging, marketing materials, and other items used in the marketing and distribution of our products.

This an excerpt from a CNN Money article:
If you recognize the name Donkey Kong, Mario, or Zelda, you’re familiar with Miyamoto’s work — and if you’ve come within shouting distance of a 14-year-old lately, you’ve probably heard about his latest creation: the Nintendo Wii.
The Wii’s motion-sensitive controller has injected a physical dimension into the videogame business, but the real genius of the Wii may be that it appeals to people outside Nintendo’s traditional middle-school demographic. By marketing the Wii aggressively to 25-to 49-year-olds, Miyamoto is breathing new life into a $30 billion industry that was starting to stagnate.
This is An excerpt from a Yahoo interview with Jessica Alba:
Y: Did you get a chance to play the games you were in?
JA: I have played both of those games, but I don’t last very long. I get frustrated. I just got the Wii and that’s fun. I play all of the Wii Sports games, like bowling, tennis, and baseball. That’s a lot of fun.
Y: You mentioned recently getting the Nintendo Wii — what do you like about it?
JA: I think the physicality of the Wii gets people off the couch. Sometimes you can just sit there playing a video game for hours and never move and you’re brain is just zapped from playing the game. With the Wii, you’re up on your feet and moving around. The physical aspect of it is great, especially for kids. They actually call it the Wii Diet, since active players can burn calories!
Jessica also shares some comments about the DS…
JA: I had my DS on the set of Fantastic Four and I bought it for my entire cast when we wrapped,” said Alba. “I guess I just felt bad because between takes they’d be chatting and we were in the Fantasticar and I’d always have my iPod and my DS with me. It was like fingernail-biting, gripping moments in the movie and then, “Cut!” I’d pick up my DS and try to beat my 82 age in Brain Age. I’d try to memorize all of those damn words.

June 4 (Bloomberg) — Nintendo Co., the world’s third- biggest maker of video-game players, widened its lead in Japan last month after its Wii consoles and DS portable players outsold products from Sony Corp., a research firm said.
Nintendo sold 251,794 of its newest game machines in May, outselling Sony’s PlayStation 3 consoles five to one, Tokyo- based research firm Enterbrain Inc. said today in a faxed statement. The PS3 trailed the Wii by four to one in April.
The PS3, equipped with the industry’s most powerful gaming chip, is falling further behind the cheaper Wii, undermining Sony’s ability to recoup investments into the machine. Kyoto, Japan-based Nintendo has forecast sales of the new consoles, where gamers swing motion-sensor controllers to play games such as bowling and tennis, will triple this fiscal year.
Microsoft Corp.’s game-player sales trailed Sony’s in Japan last month, with the U.S. company selling 11,082 of its Xbox 360 machines, the Enterbrain report said.
Nintendo’s handheld DS player outsold Sony’s PlayStation Portable five to one in May, Enterbrain said. The company sold 620,670 of the touch-screen players, compared with 123,673 PSPs.
